Get into political science in IPS
by 溥艾希(Asih Purwanti)
IPS has allowed me a valuable opportunity to broaden my horizons in learning political science. Here I learn an update and deeper study on political science and international relations. Studying at Kaohsiung also allowed me to have more understanding of North-East Asia international relations. I have an invaluable opportunity to experience in the first hands living in real-time international politics among states in the North-East Asian region.
I have finished my coursework in IPS and I can study deeper in quantitative methods. I am personally fascinated by how quantitative methods contribute to the development of political science and international relations studies. IPS provides excellent training in using software for quantitative methods in learning political science. At first, the training is felt torturing, but with hard work and supports from IPS faculty members, I gain the confidence to understand quantitative publications. However, in IPS the students are given more freedom to learn scientific methods in political science study both qualitative and quantitative, so we have more opportunities to learn both methods.
Those above opportunities are possible because of supports from an excellent team of IPS faculty members teachers who offer a positive environment in transferring their knowledge to the students. The office staffs in IPS are also very helpful and always happy to support our inquiries and needs. NSYSU provides a wide range of academic references. And last but not least, the students of IPS are also very welcome and willing to talk in English with me.
I do also enjoy attending school on a beautiful campus of NSYSU in Sizihwan Bay in Kaohsiung. Indeed, in Kaohsiung, we have summer season almost all year long, but the city also offers so many beautiful places to be explored.
Another invaluable experience having study in Kaohsiung is that I can learn the Chinese language. NSYSU provides free Chinese courses to all the international students, which is very helpful for us to survive living in Kaohsiung. Now after taking Chinese classes for almost two, I am quite confident to talk with locals in Chinese. But still, my Chinese is not enough for academic purposes.
All in all, I am having a good time studying at IPS NSYSU. And I am looking forward to enjoying years to come in IPS NSYSU with all excellent teachers and friends.
