This seminar introduces students to liberal theory, focusing on the nature, scope, and limits of liberalism. Over the course of the 18-week semester, students will work through some of the perennial questions about liberalism. For example, what is freedom? what is liberty? from whence comes liberalism? What is the state of liberalism today? Where does liberalism appear to be heading toward? By the end of the semester, students should have acquired the skills to work out answers to these questions. In addition, students should have developed and sharpened their analytical and critical thinking skills. The assumption is that students apply themselves, do the weekly reading assignments, and complete written assignments.
