安老師的「論自由」的內容帶出「自由主義」的歷史脈絡，從利維坦談到近代美國的自由主義思潮。其中帶出了許多位相關的思想家，像是著名的洛克、盧梭、亞當斯密、羅爾斯、約翰穆勒…等。
一開始安老師會以「歷史時間線講述」的方式，帶同學們認識近代思潮的演變與思想上的討論與各種立場的解析。上課方式除了老師的基本講述之外，常以討論的方式帶領同學們前進，主動式討論的環節安老師非常重視的，因為他認為如此一來才能真正激發同學們對於思想議題的檢討與思考，如果沒有主動的積極討論，並無法為這節課增添更多的思想深度。所以，課堂後老師所指定的文本閱讀也相當重要，必須非常仔細深入其中，才能夠在下一個禮拜的課堂中分享得更有內容。
安老師除了指定基本的閱讀文本之外，還會詢問同學們是否對於指定閱讀文本有其他的意見或者疑問，也會請同學找一些自己覺得跟該課程有興趣的文本跟大家分享，甚至可能會取代原本的指定文本。課程進行當中，如果老師談的內容領域跨到另外的區域，也會建議大家可以看哪一些新的文本進行補充。  
安老師給予的資訊量相當多，非常適合「主動性」強的同學們，他也鼓勵大家必須課堂與課後的心得必須勇敢表達。至於日常上，安老師也像是一個溫暖的家長，鼓勵與陽光，可以代表他的存在。

This seminar examines the nature of political theory. To this end, it will go beyond the perennial questions of, for example, what does it mean to be human? how to live the good life? how to live one’s life, how to tell right from wrong, how to separate goodness from good things, what is virtue, justice, wisdom, what sort of life is worthwhile, etc. Students should be familiar with these topics. This seminar is aimed at advanced students who are interested in exploring the scope, contours, and trends of political theory within the framework of liberal theory. Topics include, but are not limited to, the legacy of John Rawls, multiculturalism, aboriginal rights, immigration, and reparation.
