Dr. Jang ensured that all the relevant readings are provided and updated. He gave gentle reminders on the topics and readings for discussion for the next meeting. He led the discussions very well, and was quite open to various and opposing ideas. He generously gave historical backgrounds on the topics, if necessary. It was evident that he
has expertise on the course he taught. He went for extra miles to
guide the student in navigating important issues and perspectives on political parties. The syllabus was updated, and the readings were relevant and accessible in the Google drive he provided.
This course will introduce students to the voluminous literature on comparative political parties. Our goal is to explore the main questions, puzzles and theories on parties and party systems. Topics include the organization of parties, the interactions between them in party systems, changes to party systems and the relationship with voters.
