Lecturer will introduce a sociological theory of party organization featuring political network expansion and control. Comparing Taiwan’s KMT, DPP, and political parties in South Korea, this lecture will illustrate 1) the different ways that political networks can develop within parties, 2) how strong party organization and electoral pressures control these networks, and 3) the “political chaos” that can ensue when party and electoral pressures weaken and fail to control these networks.
