活動亮點:

Myanmar (Burma) is home to some of the world’s longest-running conflicts. The situation on the ground remains complex and constantly evolving, with varying governance arrangements, shifting alliances, and multiple agendas coexisting in what is a fragmented country. In this talk I explore the experiences of inclusion and exclusion among young people originally from Myanmar currently residing in the Thailand-Myanmar borderlands. Nearly four years after the February 2021 military coup the people of Myanmar remain caught in mutually reinforcing crises of war, mass forced displacement and humanitarian needs. The opposition to the military has been framed around the language of ‘revolution’, promising a more inclusive society. How inclusive has the ‘revolution’ been so far? How do visions of and steps towards peace differ among communities? To answer these questions I examine the results of arts participatory workshops co-designed with activists in the anti-coup resistance as practices of everyday peace-building and their effectiveness in bridging communal divides.
